Ok, my truck has been in 2 differant shops for 1.5 years now.
The reason i took it in was it would slowdown and stall about every 3 months. then it would not start back up for about 5 hours.
I was told it was the fuel pump so i had it replaced.
about 6 months later it did it again but i was at home so it was no big deal.
the next time i was 1 hour away in Detroit and it stalled and would not start. $200 tow bill back home, the truck starts fine.
i take the truck to a repair shop and no codes come up on their computer.
they tell me the coil is bad so i had it replaced. no luck
they tell me the fuel filter is bad new. no luck
they tell me the fuel pump is bad, another new fuel pump. no luck
they tell me the spider fuel injection is bad. replaced, no luck
they pull the distrubutor and check the gear. its good
they tell me the computer is bad, new computer. no luck so put the old one back in.
they check all the grounds no luck.
a year and a half later i get sick of waiting on them and have my wife pull me with a tow rope to another shop.
it starts all over.
fuel pump is bad, so i tak it back and the other one was still under warrenety. was getting 50 psi now it getting 62 psi. the specs are 60 to 66.
same problem.
another new fuel filter aswell
fuel tune-up plugs cap rotor.
same thing..
New gear on distributor, no luck
new TPS no luck
new Cam Pos sensor, same issue
new fuel regulator, same problem
the engine has good vacuum.
next they are going to try a new Distibutor.
===
Truck idles fine no codes come up at all. ever sensor registors right where is should be. you rev it up and it will die. if you rev really slow the rpm's will go up fine. punch it and it will stall every time.
if you unplug the TPS the truck revs up normal. any ideas?

Lot of throwing parts at it.
On the deal with unpluging TPS will it run on the road good.
Does unpluging TPS set code or turn on check engine light.
On that fuel pump going bad sounds like you are using junk Airtex pump or junk aftermarket pumps.
If unpluging TPS helps it You need to test or replace TPS sensor.
Even if it is reading out good on scanner it can have short outs in it.
The only true test on a tps is a lab scope test.
Get it checked or replaced and go from there.
Quiting on the road you need to check for lose of fuel or spark when it quits.
Acting up that bad it should have had some history codes or scanner data off.
Aso unless you are going to DIY it find a good repair shop that knows what they are doing.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.
On the fuel pump and pressure testing.

4 fuel pumps, an now i beleave non of them to be bad. i think maybe they were all good pumps.
They changed the TPS jsut tp be sure
Mufflerman seems like a good rep place for me.
ill have them unplug the TPS and see what codes they get.

Did it do any better or different after TPS sensor change?
Is TPS sensor signal reading out good oin scanner?
Report history and present codes before and after TPS sensor unplug.
On fuel pumps no way to be sure without proper testing.
But if you did not replace with a Delphi pump module you may continue to have problems there.

tHE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING AFTER THE NEW tps
sorry caps
the TPS sensor reads normal in their computers.
The 2nd fuel pump was a delco pump. the person who put it in would only do it if i bought the good one.
the next one was replaced because they could figur out the problem.
the presure was at like 55 psi on the delco or dephi or what ever it was.
i towed it to the next place who said the pressure was low and it was at 55 to 57. so we took it back and replaced it with another and we get 62 with the new one. the specs are 60 to 66 psi

Is the computer setting any codes past present history or pending?
Does the check enging light work as should?
Does unpluging TPS set code and or check engine light?
What is the fuel pressure doing now?

ok
the guys tried a couple more things like a new distributor and Temp Sensor.
Computer was putting out no bad codes.
Finally he went threw and watched every sensor while idoling.
he want to see what they would do when he reved the engine.
When he goto the MAP sensor everything reads good at an idol but when he rev it up the map sensor stayed at the same numbers at it was while idoling. all the other sensors changed. this still didnt give a code.
he put another map sensor on it and that worked. so 1.5 years later, 2 garages later i can pickmy truck up tomorrow. i dont even want to talk about wasted money....

Oh yes proper testing is worth it weight in gold.
Good Luck
