Front headrest removal

Can anyone on the site advise me on how to remove the front passenger seat headrest. We are about to travel with a pet and one of us will always be in the back seat with the pet. It would be a huge improvement to get rid of the headrest to improve the view from the back, but we need to be able to reinstall the headrest when we reach our destination.

There are undercut grooves in the posts for the headrest. Plastic guides installed in the seat back act as both slide bushings and locks for the headrest posts.

There are special tools for disengaging the locking tabs in the plastic bushings, but you can fabricate the tools necessary from thin sheet metal. Make two shims about ¼" wide and 4" long. Raise the headrest slightly, place one shim in the groove/recess of each guide bushing and push the shims downward to release the locking tabs. Raise the headrest all the way out of the bushings.

Do this at your own risk. Driving without a properly installed and adjusted headrest can subject you to neck and spinal injury in a collision.
