Hey all,
I acquired a free '94 Nissan Maxima and think it'll make a great commuter car from being lightly used from an elderly one. Engine runs strong!
Really hoping you may know suggestions for both. I can tear out and solder with the best of them if needed. I'd prefer to stay OEM/Stock but if all else fails then aftermarket of some sort is fine.
I've been fixing a bunch of little ignored things I noticed the display lights not working-
1. Bose stock CD/Tape/FM radio display (buttons are fine) just not the digital LED? display. The radio doesn't work really.. I tried volume and buttons and the tape/cd functions and nothing. I did noticed when I pushed certain radio buttons they respond though. Just no cd or tape ejecting etc working.
2. A/C display the buttons work for everything, just have to guess that you picked the right setting and push the buttons to find your setting.
Any suggestions is appreciated!

1 pull unit out and check all supply fuses; measure voltage against the radio GND
Start to hunt for oxidized connectors, see below

Thanks! I'll pull it out tonight and see what we have. Any place in particular you would check for the connectors?

CD/RAdio: Just visual inspection for fuses, wiring oxidation or looseness. If that wont help, then new system is on the line ... however, if the old unit doesnt work, no harm done in opening (and possibly breakin it more). Sometimes one can find inside loose issues, cold solder joints etc which may be repaired by soldering.
To get what u wanted, "a free '94 Nissan Maxima and a great commuter" (I guess great means reliability also?) - go through all connectors for oxidation, battery & alt cables etc. Flip through all CDomain pages and see where the typical issues lie, see link below...
My -93 VGE just works - thus no other vehicle (new=problim) needs in the horizon...
