I have a 1994 Caprice Classic and I have put much work into fixing this jerking problem/not wanting to pickup speed at a fast rate. When I take off it takes approx 10-15 sec to get to 40-50 mph. I seen cavaliers go faster. My car also acts like its idle real high, when im at lights it trys to take off on me. I have got my wires and plugs replaced, distributor cap replaced, water pump, gas system flush, oil changes, and I have a brand new alternator and battery in it. Now mind you that I have the LT1 motor that is in very good condition and I should have some real get up with this car, but I dont:frown:. What should I do? Plz help, this was my dream car and its breaking my heart.

you must check for vacuum leaks , this is step one..you use a vacuum guage and look for low vacuum..my 1996 has 20 inches of vacuum..the most common vacuum failure is the PCV and the hoses ..if original i would replace..these hoses fail around 10years old..

your computer tries to keep the fuel mixture at the correct amount..if there is a vacuum leak too much air enters the engine, this now causes the computer to increase the injector open time to increase fuel to the combustion chamber..this increases idle speed...idle speed control is secondary to fuel air ratio's..

you should have failure codes also if really bad..

there may be other problems , more costly problems
