Owned a 93 chev shortbed single cab that has LT265/75r16's in a D rating. Seemed about right. Just bought a 01 tahoe 4wd and the sticker says 265/70r16 which look almost undersize to me, and every tire shop l call starts talking about P rated tires. l find it hard to believe GM put these puny tires on a vehicle they brag can carry 9 people. Even by myself l can feel it wallering around just making a simple intersection turn.
Of course all l got from the local dealer was the warranty runaround (on a 01?) and how they don't recommend it cuz it'll ruin the tranny but they used to reprogram em until the epa made it illegal for dealers to do that.
So if l go from 265/70's to 265/75's is there a device l can buy to simply reprogram the tire size and will it not only correct the speedo reading but also change the shift points in the tranny?
Thanks, Brad

There is a lot of reprogrammers and tuners on the market.
But some are good and some are not.
Use at your own risk.
As they are border line on being illegal as the dealer ran into with the EPA rules and regulations.
On going with bigger tires I would suggest you not go over one size bigger.
How much taller are the bigger tires you are asking about?
Drive it with the bigger tires and check and see how far off the speedometer /odometer is off.
Most speedometers are programed OEM tire size with around around 5 % safety margin.
Your speedometer may come out right on the money.
If not you may be able to find a dealer or VCM rebuilder that can reprogram tire sise in to the VCM.
Just Setting one for the correct tire sise should not be illegal.
Let us know how it goes.

the tire size of 265 75 r16 is a size used with this vehicle. this would be a correct option change .
the use of a programer is what you need. this will correct seedo and tranny shift points ..check out this product http://shop.diablosportpower.com/DiabloSport-Predator-U7198-1999-2003-GM-Car-Truck-SUV-U7198.htm?productId=19
I have not purchased this but , I have talked to some that have . this also has other features which made me think very seriously considering owning..
using a forum of the use with this tool you should do to be sure this is what you to expect first before purchasing 300.oo ..
dealer will charge 100.oo for any work to do this ..
