Hello folks,
according to the idea of making ugly cars even uglier (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1057912) I decided to have a go as well. The pattern Mike used on the Panamera reminds me of the camo BMW uses on test mules. So, I thought why not applying it to a suitably ugly BMW.
This is what I started with:
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/79085247.jpg
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/9cab27cc.jpg
Disassembled first...
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/3fe4297b.jpg
... and decided that it needs a rollbar. Therefore I got rid of the rear seats.
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/c66e8427.jpg
Better, but still not quite convincing. A lonely bucket seat was lifted from the parts box and seat belts added. Allright. I scratched a mount for the laptop from leftover PE strips.
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/2ba311fd.jpg
Looks like that with the laptop mounted:
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/7dff96e7.jpg
I started with the outer camouflage and also added provisional headlights (kindly donated by a Chevy Beretta).
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/031f63ee.jpg
The dashboard also gets camouflage. Multipiece, like on real test mules (memory from previous jobs helps greatly with building a detailed prototype).
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/99a19040.jpg
Stitched together and mounted on the dashboard. The left and center parts are left open:
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/75d18ef5.jpg
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/dc262857.jpg
The engine bay received some wiring for the datalogging hardware. They are connected to the datalogger in the passenger footwell.
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/SebastianMotsch/modeling%20plastic/BMW/X6_Prototype/7c8a81c1.jpg
All emblems (incl. the ones on the engine) have been taped over for a more realistic look.
Now I'll go ahead and make the drawings for the camo decals. Hey, this quick build is a lot of fun and really brings back memories from the times when I used to drive test mules for southern German car manufacturers :smokin:

Sweet. I'd say great idea, but you already credited Mike for your inspiration lol. Oh, and you guys SUCK for how easy you can always get Welly stuff! Either way, good idea for both of them.

That happened to me, too. Some of the DC stuff I posted have been moved to the DC section (where nobody ever looks). I just let the threads die when that happens.
Oh, and BTW... you can order Welly models online just like plastic kits. They're even a lot cheaper than plastic. I bought the X6 for EUR 12,99.

Why Ebay?
You can order 1/24 Welly models from places like Collectable Diecast, and pay $9 for shipping the entire order, w/o the hassle of Feebay. No, they don't have the Unimog

Uhh...this is news to me lol. Now I just need to find the one in a million stock Delorean. I remember KBToys was flooded with them right before their demise...I only seem to want something after they're impossible to find.

Allright, after almost a year this "quick build" is finally finished.
This means handing it over to the tame racing driver, which you can see here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1076273).
Here I'll just post a teaser pic...

Kind regards,
