Alarm going off (red light flashing) and engine isnt starting.

Hi, first of all, nice to be in the forum.
In advance, I am not from a English speaking country, so please excuse my writing, thx

I have go a Pontiac Sunfire from 1997 without remote control.
Today I tried to start my car but it didnt want to (happend sometimes befor but at the end it always started) go on. Today I tried to start the engine abour four times and then the car alarm started to go off.

I think the battery is ok (light not flashing). The only light flashing, is the little red one next to the "Instrument Panel Intensity Control" one the right. I made many researches but there is no information about this light?!

What does it meen and how can I turn off the alarm. Has this anything to do with the Pontiac Passlock System? My engine doesent want to start at all and there isnt even a clicking sound, nothing...
