My friend is having problems with his explorer taking gas. Gets about 1\2 a gallon at a time (if not less) before pump kicks off. He put on a new charcoal canister and purge valve but has the same problem.
He thinks he may have crossed some hoses when hooking back up. I am going out to help him in the morning. Anyone have a diagram of the hose routing for the fuel system at the tank?
Or anything else to look for?
Thanks
Bill

Well, we got it fixed.
He had put a new charcoal canister on it (not the correct name I am sure). When puttting the tank back up he kinked the vent hose running to the fuel neck.
Just a side note. We cut the old canister in half and found the charcoal full of water/gas/liquid of some kind. It would not let the tank breath when filling. The way the vent tube running to the fill neck is made lets gas run back down it if you overfill your tank. I am sure that if you over fill your tank (top it off) every time you get gas, sooner or later the canister will fill up.
If I was to guess, all newer cars and trucks are somewhat the same.

Interesting information, thanks for sharing! That sounds like the reason it's not recommended to "top off" your tank when filling. When the pump clicks off, don't try to get those few extra pennies in to make an even dollar amount.
