New cluster fuel issue.

I replaced my original cluster for an escalade cluster about 100,000 miles ago. I love the look it gives the inside of the truck plus the fact the escaldes had the trans temp sensor. however, I now have a discrepency on the fuel level. the analog gauge will read in the red well before the fuel low light comes on the info center.
My question is simply which one is more accurate? And, can this be fixed by the dealer?
My only guess as to why this is occuring is that maybe the escalade had a different size tank than my silvy?? I always go by the gauge since that is the one that reads low first... but I've had a couple "oh crap" moments because the light is a better attention getter....

Thanks a buch and Happy New Year!

You are welcome and a good New year to you to.
If it is aftermarket cluster the dealer may have a problem fixing it.
But a extra good tech dealer or indepent may be able to help you.

I did not every get into the nitty gritty of what trigers the low fuel or low gauge lights.
But I always figured the trip on it is made in the gauge itself but on the info center low fuel light could be set by fuel sending unit in tank.
When the fuel gauge needle is very low it grounds the low fuel light on a gauge with low fuel light setup .

If it is not coming on as soon as it could be your gauge is not quite right.
Contact the cluster maker and ask them where the low fuel light is suposed to come on.
Check your fuel gauge for reading fuel in tank right.
If not working like it is set up to.
See if you can get another gauge or if the place where you got the cluster will replace the cluster or gauge.

Is the tank actually empty when the cluster gauge hits empty?
Ask you dealer if the fuel low light that comes on the info center is trigered by the fuel sending unit in tank or the cluster gauge or triged from body computer.
But
Like many will tell you it is best not to run the tank low on fuel.
Good way to test gauges and low fuel lights.
Very hard on fuel pumps.
Let us know how it goes.
Good luck

thanks for the info.

Just to make clear. I replaced my OEM cluster with an OEM cluster out of a compatible Chevy Escalade. The way I understand it the clusters are a complete and sealed unit with their own on board memory. For example, the cluster will always remember the current mileage, unless reprogrammed by dealer or authorized tech.
I was hoping the dealer may be able to tweak the other gauges.

What year and engine?
Yes mileage pre-set and sealed and hard to get any repair info on cluster and gauges.
And some times gauges are all sealed up with no replacement and may have no adjustment.

Give your dealer a call or stop by and talk to there service department.
With OEM parts from GM parts the GM dealer service department should take care of any problems with it.

They can test it and make sure the fuel gauge is reading right and reading with the body computer that probably controls the low fuel waring.

Let us know how it goes.

mt2500 all my experience over the years with the dealerships in my area is the dash units are not repaired or opened. any dash issues are all contracted out !

also little is known about the internal top secret circuits in side.

I have opened a few and made repairs ..problem is the success is limited, because of no circuit schematics.

also all the internal componets are " unknown " as to cross reference to a compatible replacement..this is true with all GM electronic componets..

I believe the bcm turns on the low fuel lt. could be the dash installed changed the circuit impedance from the tank sender reostat ..

For the info and sharing your experience On dash repair and GM electronic components.
And a big 10-4 on top secret stuff.
I always run into a brick wall trying to trace out/ down the circuits.

So much for the auto manufactures sharing/making repair info available.
Thanks MT
