Hi,
I was at work today and someone who owns a 97 Civic Vtec was telling me how if you drop the clutch with my 1990 4 door sedan I would eventually blow my engine and my clutch very fast.
he said that after a few times of doin that I would ruin my engine.
He said that a 4 door LX sedan wasnt meant to reved up then clutch dropped. But that a for instance, ford mustang was designed for it and could take the abuse.
Now, I rarely drop my clutch. The only time I do it is when I am racing someone or I wanna test out my car when I have installed new parts.
For instance, I isntalled my intake.
I rev it up to about 5000 rpm then release the clutch and take off real good. But the thing is, I dont do it very much.
Also, is there a special type of clutch I could buy for my 4 door sedan that can handle the abuse better? Like a Stage 1 or 2 clutch?
Also, how much does it cost to get a replacement clutch put in?

costs totally depend on where you are and what the market it is at that point.
as far as your LX, yeah, it is not a 'performance' machine from the factory... but ANY car that gets its clutch dropped enough is going to take some damage.
it is better to just save up your money and swap in any MPFI motor and get rid of your DPFI than to just sink money into the DPFI trying to get speed out of it.
a 5000 rpm clutch drop is quite high for an LX though.

check out ACT or Exedy or even clutch masters for ur new clutch. really u don't need it tho, considering u aren't putting down any big power numbers. (i don't need mine either, but thas beside the point). dropping the clutch isn't THAT bad, but like any hard driving, it is going to wear ur motor down quicker then jus driving like a grandpa.
as for the guy w/ the 97 civic ex, his isn't a race car either, so he really doesn't have much room to talk.
if u wanted something AROUND a stage 1 or 2, it'll run u anywhere from 3-600 bucks. jus depends on which brand/stage u get. btw, ACT doesn't have "stages" they jus have different pressure plates etc that u can mix an match.

ok this guy doesnt really seem that smart.
You cant "blow" a clutch. You can burn and wear it down but thats it.
As for the engine... You are much more likely to damage your gearbox then the engine if you just droping the clutch.
I wouldnt really recommend getting a heavy duty clutch mainly because it will put a hell more stress on your gearbox which it may not be able to handle.
I drop the clutch in mine nearly everytime I drive it... but not from 5000 revs.. unless i am doing a burnout which isnt often.. if your racing people and only dropping it from about 3k then you should be sweet.
If you fux your gearbox its just anopther excuse to put a 16a setup in :licker: :p

ANY car you can rev it and drop the clutch... your "friend" is an idiot
New Exedy clutch kit will run you a little over $100, and probably 3 times that to have a shop install it.
