water leaking onto right front floor

2005 K1500LT: I've read quite a few posts about the wet carpet problem with these suburbans, but now I have to pin this down quickly. It's not from the a/c condensation because I'm not running the a/c right now and the water has seeped in again. So, scratch that one.
I first noticed it the other day after 6 days of rain (yeah...in Las Vegas). The floor was wet from the front to the rear seats on the passenger side...and the windshield was fogged on the inside when I opened the doors after it sitting for a few days nose up on my inclined driveaway. I dried it all out with a heater and fans.
Then, I took it through a local carwash to see if I could find the source of the water. There wasn't really any inside that I could find, but the upper footwell against the firewall did seem damp. Still, nothing that would be a problem. So, I parked it in my driveway nose downhill. It rained last night so I checked the carpet again this AM. It was soaked and even had a small puddle in the r.f. corner. I pulled up the carpet and am now trying to dry out the pad underneath.
I had looked as closely as possible at the firewall yesterday and couldn't see any open holes or missing grommets. The front end was repaired just before I bought it and the two cowl trim pieces on each corner below the windshield are missing...but any water coming in that area should drain down outside the interior area. I haven't found any plugged drains YET. If the windshield was replaced I guess it could be leaking, but not sure how to isolate that from the cowl to test it. The door trim/gaskets were dry on the inside so I don't think it's coming through the door seal...maybe.
So...where are the drains and any other place water could come in from a light rain coming directly down and the truck facing downward?????

Ya sure it's due to the rain? Just asking, because my 1994 had a leaking heater core this year.

since this is a wrecked vehicle most times the body hack repairers half azz the windshield install.
only the proper sealants are to be used with any windshield repair or RE-INSTALL !!!!!!!
WINDSHIELDS CAUSE MOST OF THESE LEAKS ... I doubt it is engine related , toooo much water.....

I was really concerned about the windshield so I tried 2 water tests: First, I poured a pitcher of water along the bottom edge of the windshield and into the cowl area on the p. side. It leaked into the upper floor well area almost immediately. Second, I poured another pitcher (after cleaning up the first and drying it) on just the cowl below the windshield, including the end where the cover pieve is missing. It leaked immediately into the cabin at the same points. So, it looks like the water is coming in from under the plastic cowl cover in front of the windshield. Tomorow I'll remove the cover and I'll bet almost anything the idiots who reassembled this truck didn't seal some or any of the openings for whatever goes through that cowl.
Between all the threads on this same subject that reveal the crappy work that GM did on many of these cars, and the pathetic work done by so-called bodymen who charge insurance companies tons of bucks (that we pay for) I am sick of the lack of professionalism and regard for doing a job right. It has become a badge of dishonor in the auto world....and a damm good reason that our American companies are getting their butts kicked in so many industries.
There is no excuse for this shoddy work and such laziness. And these workers think they actually deserve the inflated money they make. Disgusting!

thats what I figured happened. they removed the windshield did their body magic and half aazzed the windshield install.
this windshield should be re installed by a glass company that is highly recommended in your area.
like I stated before, the use of special sealants are required , this is part of the safety/body shield to protect YOU from injury..
also where you live ,,,,not properly installed , when it gets up over 100deg f its gonna crack ..

Here's how we solved the problem: The leak was coming from a small panel that was supposed to be sealed to the firewall under the cowl...passenger side. My son removed the wipers and cowl, removed the panel, sealed all the seams with siliconized caulk (typical stuff you can get at WalMart) poured water through the cowl openings to be sure the leak was sealed and the drain was working, then put it all back together. It is dry and I don't see any water coming into the p.compartment footwell.

I have a 99 Suburban and I often found my passenger side carpet wet. I found my problem was water leaked in from the top of the windshield and was running behind the plastic trim. I found out this is a common problem. I ran a bead of silicone across the top of the windshield on the outside. I'm happy to say this fixed the problem.

My problem was the vent and other pass through areas under the cowl. Sealing them with caulk solved the problem and it's never leaked a drop since. I wish everything else on this truck could have been solved so easily and cheaply.

Concur....pulled the vent cover off along with wipers and the access pnl in right corner had the form seal that was dried out and falling off. I did all kinds of test with the hose and it appeared to be that. Put new foam on, resealed with RTV and sealed any cracks or places the sheet metal comes together. Also sealed a vert slot just fwd of the blower motor on the firwall. It appears that when the leak was going on, it was coming thur the blower and just fwd of that via the blower seat. GTG now and zero leaks!!! :smokin:
