How do you reinstall an ashtray in a 2003 Malibu?

My car was broken into about a week ago and they took all of the change from the ashtray. Thankfully nothing else. However, they did pull the ashtray from the dashboard and when I go to put it back in, it is resisting going all of the way. Is there something I am not doing like finding a clip to lift or is there a special way of putting it back in its track? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
