Actually, it's laying there like its dead. I'll check the VSS, but don't these usually go to "0" when they don't get a signal???

Most likely the stepper motor is bad. All the gauges have a small motor connected to the needle that receives input from the ecm to display their respective readings. These motors stick and don't want to return to zero sometimes. Check with a dealer, there may be a recall to replace your gauge cluster. If not there are many services you can find on the internet to repair/replace these stepper motors.

the dash guages on your vehicle was part of a recall I believe that was very large.

the stepper motors go bad, made with defects..

contact a dealership with vin # see if they can help with repair cost.

if not the dash will need repair,,, internet repair sites are avalible.

problem is the dash removed you cannot operate the vehicle !

the dealership does not repair dash panels. they send out to a repair center, could take 2 weeks..

Of course it couldn't be something simple I could change out myself. :(

Today, it went to about 70 and stayed there while I drove around at approx 35-45. On the freeway it went back up to 100-120. If there's one job I realllllly hate doing it's pulling the dash and poking my hands on all the sharp crap behind there. So, I guess I'll be talking to a dealer on Monday. Merry Christmas to me...humbug.

go to this website :http://www.gmspeedometerrecall.com/chevy-speedometer-settlement.

you may be lucky and have this repair made because of this widespread law suit settlement...if not check out the cost/repair time for this.

If your vehicle isn't covered by the recall, some of the repair services offer overnight service. I think the vehicle can be operated without the gauge cluster, you just don't have access to gauge readings.
