ok, with a crvtec, how high could I rev safely?
I am going to have a B16 head and dual valve springs/tit retainers so tha head could handle 9k easy, but will the stock cams have power up there for it to be worth reving that high?
and Im gonna have crower econo billet rods/ JE forged pistons and a blockgausrd, so the block will pretty strong, Im gonna trust the stock crank tho. but since I dont have oil squirters I am guessing that it will be alot harder on my car at 8500 then on a VTEC block.
but if I did decide to set my fuel cutoff at around 8700(shifting at 8500)
it would still probably go 100-125k miles before it needed a rebuild if taken care of, right?
Id be satisfied with every few years having to bore it out some and get oversised pistons.

I wouldn't take it past 8000, the engine just wasn't designed for that kind of abuse. Unless you got a crank thats better than the stock one. Plus it's a larger displacement engine, the more cubic inches the less it needs to rev to make power. The stock cams on the B16 make peak HP at 8200, so with the B20 I'd say they make peak at about 7600. So shifting at 8000 - 8200 would be probably perfect.

alright, so pretty much stock GSR ECU cutoff then, it is like at 8300 right? Ill probably shift at like 7 when just messin around on the streets for some fun, 8 at the track, and try keeping it low during daily driving.

Redline on a B18C1 is 8200. That engine should have massive torque for a Honda. Good low end.:)

nah, it REDLINE's at 8k even. but its limiter is at 8300. ur thinkin b18c5 if its over 8k (stock) cuz they'll redline at 8400, an shut off around 87.

No I was thinking of the JDM B18C1, that redlines at 8200.

the rod/stroke ratio in the crv was not made for high revs, i dont care what kind of headwork u have done to it. i would guess also 7600 is definitely pushing that engine. good luck with the project, and have fun kicking the heck out of domestics.

kittedb18bt is right the rod strok is bad it will wear out you cylinder walls but you could bet the block sleved to make it last longer.

I know the R/S isnt too good at 1.54 but the B18C1/C5 is only 1.58(pretty sure of this at least) and they rev to 8k all the time, I think its cuz of the oil squirters. the B16 is the one nearing perfection at 1.74.
what would be the displacement of a engine with a 84mm bore(B20) but with a B16 crank and rods? would the compression be really low cuz the pistons dont get as far towards the head as they used to with the stock internals. can you get custom made pistons that are extra all to make up for that?
