Hey Guys,
When I pulled the drivers cv joint out the output shaft also came out due to being stuck on the splines which were slightly twisted. I was able to pick up a salvage output shaft to replace the other but...
I wanted to know what type of bushing goes on this shaft and where can I purchase it?
Can this bushing be installed without taking the transmission off. I was able to take the other one off from the outside using a screwdriver.
Is there a website that has the layout of these parts?
Thank you so much!
Mike

Welcome to AF, I would suggest a factory manual here, that bushing should be semi pressed into the housing, not come out too easy, parts are probably trans shop or dealer parts only.

Thank you for your reply. My question though, can this bushing be pressed from the outside of the transmission case?

Yes, if there is no lip or flat to butt against on outer section of the housing look close at how it is designed, when you get the old one out.

Older post. But heres your CORRECT answer. ::::: What you are referring to as a bushing is in actuality a seal, I believe this because you said you removed the other one with a screwdriver. It is called a "TRANS AXLE SEAL". The correct way to remove it is with a slide hammer. That is why there are lots of little holes near the outter edge of the seal. The slide hammer screws into the holes. It is possible to change the seal while the transmission is still in the car. There are also numerous tools made to be used for removal of this type of seal. You can buy this seal at almost any auto parts store. If the store doesnt have it they can order it. Parts like this sell for aroung 4 to 9 bucks. there is no way to to remove the OUTPUT shaft on a 4 series fwd GM transmission with out splitting the trans case, which is impossible to do with said trans still in the car. In any case, the bushing for the output shaft is a semi-soft metal SLEEVE (not a bushing) consisting of lead, copper, aluminum and brass. It is easily scratched and should be installed with a PRESS (do not try to tap it in place with anything or you'll be sorry).
