Two Quick Problems

Hey all,


I have two quick problems here:

1. My friend's 95' Nissan Altima's Memory doesn't work on his radio. We have now had three radios in his car, (stock and two CD Players), and none can hold any radio presets, etc. We have checked our connections with the wiring harness and found nothing loose on our part. However, we are stumped when it comes to finding out if the "constant" is shorted or exactly what else may be causing this problem.
Any suggestions?

2. This "problem" is not as quite severe...I am getting rid of my 96 TBird and getting a 99 Cougar- hopefully! I am curios as to what I can take from my Tbird's system and put in the cougar. I know that the rear panel of a cougar takes 6x8's. However, after checking Crutchfield.com, it says that the front door will also take 6x8's. Yet, if you look at a cougar, (as I have w/o taking it apart), you will notice that the grilles look to only support like a 51/4 or something. Does anyone for sure?

Any help on either of these problems is greatly appreciated!!!

Hey, it's me again! Can't help with #2, but I was wondering if you could put the preset in, but it just won't hold it after being shut off. If so, the only thing that I know of that erases the presets is when power is lost to the radio. Check the wiring and make sure there aren't any loose connections.

Thanks for the reply! The radio will except presets and everything and will is also supposed to save you custom settings. However, after turning off the radio, it restarts with everything at the factory defaults.

I checked the connections yestarday when we put his new radio in- they were all secure. To be safe though, we even undid them and reattached them all over again- kind of praying for a miracle, ya know?

Anyway, I haven't talked to him today to try this new theory, but I was looking over one of those install guides that crutchfield sent me about ayear ago with one of my radios. In it, the say that if you are experiencing this problem, that the ignition and the constant are switched and to reverse them.

Like I mentioned though, no way to do that yet until I can get hold of my buddy! If it does or doesn't work, I 'll post a follow-up.

the memory thing ........ there are two different power wires. One supplies 12V when the ignition is on, the other supplies 12V all the time. Either you have a switched 12V wire connected to the constant 12V line OR the constant 12V line fuse is blown.
