For those who have a 2500HD with 6.0 engine.. Do these trucks normally run at the 210 mark on the dash guage? I know the thermostat is 195...my truck (new to me) basically warms up fast and then sits at 210F. Not saying its wrong just wondering what others see.

the thermostat I believe is 187 deg f. ,,,,,normal temp is on the dash guage about 195deg f..
2007 is 195 deg f ............? depends on exact engine type !
what coolant do you have in this engine ? has anyone other than YOU added any coolant ? drain some coolant what is the color ? is the fluid clear/clean ?

I believe that that's correct, but someone else may be able to advise better
the older engines used the 187 deg f.
dexcool is only good for 3-4yrs not 5 yrs ..if this is the original coolant replace with GM approved dexcool........

I rechecked this temp on the thermostat . you must enter the exact engine type for the correct thermostat..
with a gas 6.oL this would be the 187 deg f...
call dealer with vin or do internet search for the thermostat with your engines specs..
the 8.1 L engine uses the 195 deg f ..

yes.. I have the 07 new body style K2500HD with 6.0 engine. In looking at various web sites...it shows the thermostat to be 187F as you guys have noted. On the dash guage the temp sits at 210...I've not check with scan tool.

I'm sure the coolant is dexcool...but I will check, only had the truck for a week now and it only has 13K miles, and former (single) owner is local and had all service done at local GM shop.

13,ooomi is very ODD. vehicle is going on 4yrs now . this means dexcool must be replaced..mileage is no factor,,,,, it is how long in use mixed with water and metals. acid content increases and then the leaks ..
I would do a carfax to verify miles..
when replacing coolant always blow out / back flush the heater core !
use 65% dexcool , 35 % distilled water ...never use well or drinking tap water too much metal and corrosive chemicals.
do accurate temp check should be 190-195 deg f at the goose neck.....210 is too high.
my engine runs winter/summer locks in at 195....

miles are accurate....I've already looked into that.
To answer my own issue. I checked the temp with my scan tool....thermostat opens around 187 or so, truck runs between 190-196 (given today's temps). Gauge at dash never moves off 210F.
So I suspect its either the sending unit for the guage or a guage/cluster issue.
I drove around for an hour this afternoon, truck never got above 195F, guage never moved off 210.
Only thing bothers me...is what is the guage going to do if and when the truck does get fairly hot..guess I'll see what happens this summer.
I may change the dexcool this coming summer.

if the coolant is correctly maintained this temp should hold at the 195 deg f ...I found this engine/vehicle does not vary with hot temps...
might take a bit longer to get to 195 when very cold ...
dexcool is not good for 5 yrs ....3-4 yrs only..
the temp sender must be a little off..

I believe the sender is the same as the coolant temp sensor, no seperate sensor for the gage , no? The pcm networks with the bcm and that is what drives the gages.

Not having owned a 6.0 engine before I'm not sure but historically the sendor for the guage is different than the one the PCM/ ECM uses for its temp readings.
5.7 Vortec has two different sendors.
5.7 TBI has two different sendors.
I suspect 6.0 has two different sendors.
Once again not having owned a 6.0 engine before, until just recently (last week)... historically the temp sendor is reading info from the driver side cylinder head, and the PCM reads temps from the intake manifold. I assume the same for the 6.0.

You may be right but check into it, I can tell you GM cars are set up the way I stated.

with a scan tool measure the engine temp. at 195 deg f the resistance of the eng coolant sensor should be 240 ohms..
if this is correct , the "resistance" , then this would indicate that the dash temp indicator is off or the circuits in the dash converting this signal from the computer to the analog temp guage is off..
the ECT is cheap part you could replace see if it works correctly if not just live with this slight defect..too expensive to get this fixed for a small reading error..
the ECT/Coolant SENSOR is driverside on engine head near #1 cylinder .
make sure the connections are clean and secure to the sensor/wires also..
the higher the resistance the colder the temp.....
IF YOU GET LOWER THAN 240 OHMS AT SENSOR THIS IS WHY IT IS READING A HIGHER TEMP !
the ect does send temperature info to the PCM from there it is sent to the dash circuits for display processing..
the older 5.7 has two senders one at goose neck or water pump to PCM , the other on the intake somewhere to the dash temp guage.

thanks for the feedback. I may look into changing the sendor later on, once I get some other things fixed. Right now I'm working on my trail rig (86 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 with 5.7 Vortec Engine).
Hope I don't end up working on the "new" pickup that often. :)
