WHAT'S UP PEOPLE,
I WONDERING IF ANYBODY CAN HELP ME OUT. I JUST INSTALLED A AIR INTAKE ON MY 96 MAX. BUT NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. THERE IS ONE SENSOR THAT WAS CONNECTED TO THE HOUSING OF THE AIR BOX, WHICH I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH NOW. I THINK IT'S A TEMPERATURE SENSOR. WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS SENSOR?????

I have 97 maxxie, and I have Injen CAI. When I installed it i disconnected that sensor (its an air temperature sensor) because it was giving me big time problems when it was connected. So I just left it out, and my check engine soon light is on till this moment. If you leave it disconnected it wont give you any problems. What that sensor does is, it tells ECU the temperature of the air coming into the engine, there-fore giving you better fuel/air mixture. My gas milage is still the same.

On your intake there should be a hole on the midpipe where you can push the sensor into using the grommet on the sensor. If you got a popcharger and no midpipe, I don't know what to tell you.

Leaving the sensor near the intake should do enough to come close enough to the air temp.

Do what you can to install the intake right.

If you leave it so the CEL is on, your car runs retarded, literally, so you lose some power.

yeah, eventually you'll get idle fluctuation. it'll bounce from like 500 rpm to about 1100. a couple of times my car even stalled out on me. I figured i could do without it but after a day or two of the car acting funny i reconnected it and rigged it so it would stay on. no probs since. try to find a way to reconnect it if you can.
