cd player swap

Will a cd player from a 2001 malibu work in a 2000 malibu? I know they changed the front of them between the two years but I don't know what all changed. First of all would it fit in the same hole and mount up? I know the dash itself looks identical on the front. Also did the wiring change? I'm wondering because the newer ones are a lot cheaper than the ones that came on the 2000 and she wants an OEM cd player. Any help is appreciated.
