377KM on it.
went to start my car, it started, but was coughing and sputtering. It stalled a few times, then wouldn't start again. It rolls over but will not start.
Brought it to my mechanic, he said he can't even get a code from it, can't even communicate with the computer. I don't know a thing about cars, but he said the 'computer' may be pooched.
What computer would he mean? He said it wouldn't be worth fixing as the repair would be as costly as what the vehicle is worth.
Well, money wise, it's worth $500 maybe....but to me it's worth a million bucks.
Thoughts?
Should it be turned into a metal cube? :)

I'm guessing by "computer" your mechanic is refering to the car's PCM or ECM, whichever you want to call it. Go to http://www.car-part.com/ (http://www.car-part.com/) and enter your car information and location. For part, choose Computer Box Engine. In Ontario, Canada they can be found for $50-$200 used, with some places wanting substantially more. If your around Toronto, maybe try Boston Auto Wreckers. They have quite a few listed that should work for you (1997 Cavalier) for $150. There not too hard to replace, if you have any friends that are good with cars you shouldn't have any problems.
