Fan isn't blowing out heat/ac/defrost (fan is not problem)

My fan isn't blowing out anything, but my mechanic (good friend) says that its not the fan. When the engine is hot and I hold my hand up to the vent, I can feel the heat coming out. I don't see any leaks. My mechanic is thinking I might have to replace the climate control unit. How much would that be around (with labor). My mechanic isn't exactly sure what the problem is.
I can go another route. I can take it up to a dealership and pay 98 bucks to have them see what exactly the problem is.
Thank you in advance!

Don't throw money into parts that you aren't sure needs replacing.
You say the fan is not the problem, but do you hear it blowing at all? If you can't hear the fan speed change when you change the fan speed selector, then how do you know it is not the fan?
If the fan is not turning at all, it's probably the fan. You can try shorting it with some power and see if it turns, but if it doesn't than replace it.

My mechanic said the fan is working fine. He thinks its either the relay switch or the climate control unit. He isn't sure of the 2 because he didn't go in the dash yet. I'm wondering if its an expensive job.
