loss of power

i just bought a 77 f150 short bed 4x4 with a 400 in it. when i start the truck it runs fine once i put it in gear it wont rev up and wants to die. i figured its a carb issue so i rebuilt the carb and that doesnt make a difference and i dont know where to go from here
