Hey guys,I know there's not an exact answer here but I'm wondering what a rule of thumb is for enamel dry and cure time? I,m using Testors w/testors thinner,3:1 ratio and about 12-14 thin coats(Tamiya primer, can).
1-Approximately how long should I wait until wet sanding?
2-How long till applying decals and gloss coat?
Thanks for everyone's help again..Chris

i say a week and a half or 3 weeks tops :lol2:
ive had testors paint take a month to dry using their thinner.
testors thinned with laquer rock hard in a week tops or 6 hours in a dehydrator.
wouldnt use tamiya over anything enamel.:nono:
the method you use works but it will bite you when you least expect it.

Yeah, use lacquer thinner and your dry time should'nt take more than a week tops.

Or better yet, ditch Testors enamels. Switch to lacquers. They are dry in 1 day tops.

well, this is not specific to testors products, enamil paints take ages to harden. One week is common, four is not a rare exception. It depends of course on how hard the surface should be.
I have finally gave up hobby colors for exteriors and turned to automotive paint. It cures like a rock in short time. Bad point is the build up of tiny bubbles in clear coats. I could not master this problem until now. This tiny bubbles remain invisible until the polishing compounds are used. They fill this holes with white compound making them visible.

Testors enamels thinned w/lacquer thinner and dried in a dehydrator allow you to wetsand in hours; overnight is good. Otherwise be prepared to wait weeks.
I decant Tamiya sprays, shoot them through the airbrush, use the dehydrator, and can buff them out in as little as 3 hours.
Needless to say, my enamels have been awfully lonely in storage.
