Leslie Nielsen passed away at 5:30 pm today. He was the best at deadpan comedy. Airplane, Naked Gun, great stuff. A great guy.
Of course most of us will remember his comic acting, but for many years he was a serious actor playing many 'handsome leading-man' roles in the movies.
My favourite? Forbidden Planet (1956). Anyone who sees this flick can see that the original Star Trek series ripped off most of its basic ideas........ which means Leslie Nielsen was the prototype for Captain Kirk.

Leslie was a distant cousin of mine that toured with his one-man show on the life of the great defense lawyer, Clarence Darrow in his later years, which played here three times over the years. Each time he took us out to dinner on opening night but had dinner the rest of the time at our house. He was as funny off stage as he was serious onstage. A great actor that loved his craft. R.I.P. my friend.

He was awesome. My favorite movie line from him was "Yes I am and don't call me Shirley" from the movie Airplane. RIP Leslie Nielsen
