Hey all, '05 Liberty. Started leaking near the 3rd bolt to the right (from top) on the water pump. Took it apart, the gasket had a bunch of crud (dried coolant) on it. Cleaned it very well with a nylon brush, put a new gasket in. ..................................... . Months later, leaking again from same spot. Took it apart, gasket looks clean. I put thread sealer on the bolts and some RTV gasket maker on the outter edge of the gasket, bolted it, came back and retightened to torque specs. . ............................................ Leaking again a few months later. Same spot. I think it leaks when it's cooling after being hot during normal driving, cause it only seems to leak in the driveway, then will seal up again. Any ideas? Pump works. Coming from the gasket area (as best I can tell). I put some flour on it once and the trail of water came from that area. .................................................. .. . . Metal cracked? Bolt hole bad? Surface is pitted? Since everything is working fine, except for the leak, should I put some more RTV in there and just try to plug the leak?

Apparently from what I've read. These Jeeps are known for overheating. The water pump could be warped. Might check for that next time. I got someone bringing me theirs and its leaking in EXACT same spot... After it over heated :yikes:... I'm debating if I should go ahead and replace whole water pump and gasket on theirs just to be safe... Along with thermostat. I've heard these Jeeps are nothing but problems :banghead:

I ended up replacing it. You're right, it was warped and would move around during heating and cooling. New after market one works good. This jeep has been falling apart since we bought it. Tranny just cratered recently. Never buy modern jeep.
