Brake Lights Stuck On

We replaced the brake booster on my 99 Suburban. (Refilled fluids and bled brakes) When we re-installed plastic brake clip (sits on rod from brake booster connecting with brake pedal) and plug it in it seems the rod from the brake pedal (the one that goes through the hole on the brake clip) is pushing the metal inside the clip too much and keeping brake lights on. If we press the brake the lights come on, release brake pedal and brake lights go off for 1 or 2 seconds and then come back on (without pedal being pressed). Even had a second clip from another truck and did the same thing.
(After reading through forum this morning) Could we not have pulled the rod from the brake booster enough and it's pulling the rod (on the brake pedal) back onto the metal connectors? Any suggestions on how to adjust it correctly?

the brake pedal should go to the highest point. the booster should not interfere with the pedal height...could be wrong part.did you check out the new/old for proper fit/design ?

Yep. That was the problem. I just recently bought the suburban and the seller had a brake booster from a '96 Silverado. He told me the part would work, so...I pulled part from Silverado and installed in Suburban. Fit great except plastic brake clip seemed to fit at wrong angle because of brake pushing on metal inside clip. Called junk yard to find out I need booster from '97-'99 and '96 is wrong part. Replaced booster again (much faster second time since still fresh in my memory) and now works great. Amazing what happens when you use the right parts.

the reason I said wrong part is because this is a common mistake ...your not the first.
