00 Eclipse GT (115k mi) Clutch Question

I have a near-stock 2000 Eclipse GT (premium package) with a 5 speed manual tranny. All it has is a K&N intake, and maybe a short shifter I'm not really sure.

I bought the car used about 1.5 years ago, and have always had something kind of strange occur with this car that I cannot quite figure out.

This car, unlike the 97 civic or the 89 240-SX I had previously owned, ALWAYS revs up when given more than about a sixth of the throttle. To put it another way, when I give the car some gas, it revs up before actually accelerating! I don't think my clutch is going out, because once it revs up, it accelerates smoothly. I'm about 90% sure that this is a computer chip thing. I really would like to have control over this thing though, it's kind of embarrassing when I'm driving in town and my car revs up for no reason. Also, sometimes when given about a sixth of the throttle it revs up for about 3 seconds before actually accelerating.

It's as though whenever I give it gas I am pushing in the clutch, when in reality, I am not pushing in the clutch pedal at all except when shifting.

HELP PLEASE!!

If the motor revs up and the car doesn't speed up right away your clutch is slipping
