2.0 16v it not bloody start now>>>help please

:headshake hi everyone,
I own a 2.0l 16v..when driving home the other nigh it backfired afew times and cleared..tonight the same happened and cut out,now it will not start at all. The engine light has come on
anyone????????:confused:
