New, I don't know if this is already a thread, sorry if it is.
160000mi. 4.6L 2v v8 ohc LX
Rough idle in D or R.
N or P kinda rough, hold the gas at 1000rpm really rough.
Lagging acceleration
Codes are P1407, P0171, & P1131.
The 1407 I know about. The egr valve works so does the solenoid and sensor, too lazy to check the port.
Vacumm is fine
Just cleaned the MAF and it runs a little better. By mistake, I erased the codes. P1407 came back on and not the others.
Any ideas anyone??????????????

I was thinking injectors, regulator, filter or fuel pump.
Maybe HO2S
Maybe electric source, cuz I do have a power surge every now & then when the fan kicks on. Could that mess with the injectors?
Spark plugs; 1 on pass. 3 on drvr. are white and 1 on drvr. 3 on pass. are black, what's causing that?????
1 small hole in each muffler.

Nothing has been changed on it since 95' except the following:

Normal maitenance
Tie rod ends
Both front hubs
Brake booster and both front rodors
Sway bar bushings
Motor mount (drvr side)
Water pump
Home made ram/cold air intake
Starter
Two torque converters (exploded the second one while still in tranny)
Transmission gears (all of them)
Rear U joint
The housing what fits the driveshaft in the tranny

those are bad on intake gasket's and head gaskets do a compresion check.

What do you mean "those"
Clearify please

Oh yeah, the rough idling comes and goes at a stop light or just sitting in idle. And, sluggish to 2200rpms, then it's like someone dumped tons of fuel in my engine, the car rockets.
I mean if she was running good 13.4@90mph in the 1/4mi.

i mean those moters on head gaskets and upper intake gaskets. but compresion test will tell you allot.

K scrapper, I took my mechanics stethoscope and I can hear a hissing sound at the bottom of the throttlebody but not the top.
I can't hear any noise from the upper plenum.
Does this mean that the throttlebody's gasket is blowin?
If not, what can you make of this??
I have to wait a couple of days to get a compression gauge. I will be able to check the compression then.

Check these two places. You'll see the EGR problem can cause the P1131! Code P1151 is the same as P1131 except it's for the other bank. http://www.obd-codes.com/p0171 and http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ford/p1151.php

97bird thanx, but the EGR valve isn't stuck open.

Could the EGR port be plugged? And, if so could it blow the EGR gasket????????

Also, since this is my daily driver can I drive on this for a few??????
Inother words will it hurt my engine?????

Just until I can get it fixed. I have collage 38miles away and I have no other way of getting there!

If the port is plugged it's acting like a stuck EGR valve because there is no flow. Take the EGR valve off during the weekend when you don't have school and check the port! Buy a new gasket before that because you will most likely have to replace it.

What is the easiest way to get the egr off?????
And, do I need any special tools to do this?????

Soak both ends of the pipe going between the EGR valve and exhaust manifold as many times a day as you can for at least two days before trying to remove it. Use Kroil or PB Blaster for this.
