90 manual transmission problem

Was driving up a hill down shifted from third to second and tranny would not go it to second gear. It is stuck in neutral, it will not go into any gear at all. After messing with it got it in to fifth gear but no others. Any one seen this problem before. Please help I need my toy back on the road. It is a manual tranny. Trans fer case seems fine clutch, slave cylinder and master cylinder all new. something in tranny

How many miles and what engine?

Any updates here? It's most likely the shifter but could be the transmission itself, though that's unlikely.
