well im swaping in my ls motor, and i got the motor mounted and everything. and using my generic mounts, the motor sits pretty far back from the firewall, i think it could be moved back an inch or so.
ok so i got my header and ac fan on, and damn are they close together, they are so close together that they are touching, anyone else have this problem ? how far is your ac fan away from your header ?
onto the problems, got a bented oil pan, its dented so much the oil pick up is dented too, so i gotta get a new oil pan and pick but i bought one off ebay for $50 so thats good
another problem is that the shift linkage taht came with the car is about 2 inches too short
now im worried that my exhaust will not bolt up, oh well nothing ever goes good in my life.
as far as the swap is going other than those problem, i got the axles on, wiring is complete, vaccum is almost done, just need a long vacuum line. the only things that arent hooked up is hte radiator hoses, exhaust, and fluids. and it sucks because i was hoping that my car was gonna be ready by this weekend so i could go race it at the memorial day drags over here, but i guess taht wont be happening. and its probably the only weekend ill have off this summer too, it sucks

yeah im thinkin your mounts is what is messin up the clearance up front, im runnin hcp like mellowboy and my engine sits nicely in the bay
as for your exhaust, is it where the header meets uip with the cat or what?
if thats the case, i had to hack my dc 4-2-1 header off about 2 inches and reweld the flange because it was rotated about 180 degrees off
as for linkage, you can just extend your stock linkage, just get a piece of pipe and tack weld it and mess with it till the shifter sits right in the cabin, then weld it...you can even rent a half assed welder from home depot...it sucks but it gets the job done...sorta
heres a pic of my bay with hcp mounts...not the best but you get the idea

With my ZC in and 4-2-1 Header my Header is like 2cm from touching the Fan, before with the DC it was like .5mm from touching it.

anyone got any pics of how close there intake mani is away from the firewall because tahts what im curious about, whether the mounts are pushing it to far forward. like rigth now the farthest part back on the engine is this bolt on the intake mani and it sits about 2 inches from the firewall. so if some one can plz take a close up pick from the passenger side, a pic of the firewall and how close the engine sits to the firewall

a few of you guys have hcp mounts for their b motors. i was wondering if they were better and/or cheaper than hasport mounts

i doubt they are better, after all the Hasport mounts are billet aluminum and very sexy. I think the main reason people choose HCP is the cost..
$250 vs $350...

HCP is up there with HASPORT. Some ppl choose HCP over Hasport and some choose Hasport over HCP. The reason i chose HCP mounts its because they come with 4 mounts instead of 3. It sets ur engine lower and have a bit more room in the engine bay. IMO i like HCP better.

Hey, CivicKiller-
You should have a little more clearance between your header and your fan. It's possible to just nip a little piece of plastic off of the fan so it's not actually touching.
You will need a little bit of clearance betweent the two. The fan is mounted to the body, but the motor needs to vibrate and move a bit. If it's touching, it'll break what it's touching.
Are you using a ceramic header? If you are, then you probably won't have any problems with the header melting the fan. If you don't have a ceramic coating, your fan will probably get roasted.
I have seen different sized radiators to deal with this problem, too. I know you don't have unlimited funds to invest. You can get a radiator that has a smaller area, but is thicker, so it has the same cooling ability as the stock one.
I'm also worried that your motor is sitting too far back. One of the reasons these cars really take off is that the weight of the motor and transmission is over the wheels. If the motor is moved back, you'll be losing some traction and handling.
I also blame your mounts, but then I think hundreds of dollars for aluminum mounts that any decent machine shop could whip in an hour or two is obscene. I think companies like Hasport are seriously overcharging for their mounts. Sure, they're good, and they'd better be at those prices. If I were still in the business, I'd be cranking out mounts like crazy, just as good, at half the price of Hasports.
Anyway, good luck on your project. The lessons you have to work out on your own are the most valuable. That problem-solving skill will help you another day.
