2005 Saturn VUE engine light won't go off

I've been having this problem since April; at first my engine light would come on, and then go back off. Now, it's on to stay.

Normally I would worry about this kind of thing--an engine light exists to tell you when there is a problem, after all.

However, each and every time I have the codes pulled--there aren't any. No codes whatsoever. Not even anything to indicate a gas cap problem (which I thought could be the case since the original cap seemed to be bad, so I bought a new one to no avail).

The truck itself runs just fine, there is no indication of a malfunctioning anything, anywhere. Just that !#@$ light.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Or have any advice about what to do about it?

Just monitor, and look for other symptoms.

Advice? Yes, two thoughts.

Have the PCM and I/P checked. Each is a device on the serial bus (along with several other modules and devices) and the lack of communication between them can cause the I/P to light the "Service Engine" light even though there is nothing wrong with the powertrain. The dealer service department should know that.

Second, stop thinking of the Vue as a truck. It is a untilzed body (no frame) FWD vehicle, essentially a tall station wagon or "crossover" vehicle. Think twice before towing or hauling heavy loads with it, as you would a true truck. Imagining it as a truck and treating it as such will likely reveal its shortcomings in an expensive way. It's just a taller passenger car with more interior space.

... I am much aware of the fact that it is not a true "truck". It is simply how I prefer to refer to it. Sounds so much better than "glorified station wagon" or "multiple passenger go-go machine". It has never in the past three years I've owned it, nor will it ever be in future years used for anything other than hauling us around town.

... thanks for the other advice, though. I'll see if they can find anything.
