Prostart CT 3300 No start and 3 blinks?

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to pop a question about the remote starter in my van. It came with the van.. and it worked fine when I bought it.. but after a few months I noticed that every so often it would not start and the lights would blink 3 times after the failed attempt. The problem began as intermittant... and gradually got worse until now it wont even start some of the time!

I checked the owners manual, and it says that 3 blinks after a failed start attempt means it is not getting a signal from the tach. SO.. I traced the tach wire through the firewall to find out where it was plugged in.. and found no noticable breaks in the wire. I even went so far as to bypass the factory wire with a new wire just to see if the wire itself may be the problem. And still no luck :S Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the subject!

Cheers!
Jay

Many remote start systems have a voltage sensing mode that does not require a tach signal. If you can find an installation manual for the system you might be able to set it to voltage sensing. You'll also want to set the crank time to something reasonable so in the event it doesn't detect the voltage quickly enough it doesn't leave the starter motor engaged long after the engine starts.

If this seems to work reliable for several starts, then you can be a bit more confident the tach signal is the issue. Do you have a digital multimeter with a continuity test mode? Have you ever noticed the tachometer jumping around or not behaving? Does your van have a tachometer?

After reading through the manual, this model doesnt appear to have a voltage sensing mode... or at least, one is not mentioned anywhere in the installation guide or owners manual. The van does not have a tach.. and I do have a multimeter.. which does have the continuity test mode...

Look for a bad or corroded hood safety switch...usually mounted along the side and is a plunger type switch that closes a circuit when the hood is opened. It keeps the vehicle from starting while you've got your hands/head under the hood.

this model gives 10 fast flashes if the hood is open. Thanks, but that is definately not the problem. Im starting to think this module is pooched...

You're right, I checked out the installation guide (http://www.engines911.com/asdocs/CT-3300_ig_en_h370s380v250_040902.pdf) and there doesn't appear to be a voltage sense mode. Looks like you might need to find another more reliable tach signal. They give you some suggestions along with the required signal levels on page 6 for the purple wire. You could use your multimeter to see if your signal meets/exceeds the minimum requirements. If your signal is correct, you might then want to go through the tachometer programming steps outlined on page 12.

After checking the tach wire with the continuity test, it was showing a very strong tach signal coming through the wire. While I had the multimeter stuck in the side of the module.. I tried the start button.. and low and behold.. it worked! Turns out that the tach wire just wasnt making a good connection inside the module.. so I crammed some tin foil in the hole where the tach wire goes in.. and it seems to have fixed the problem! Just my luck it would be something stupid like that! haha.. thanks for your help though!

It could also be a broken solder joint at the circuit board. If you find this remote start to be unreliable in the near future, consider opening the module and looking for a bad solder joint and fixing it.

Glad it doesn't sound like the system is shot, that's a good thing for you!

Hello there,
I installed Prostart ct-5000 remote starter in my 2007 Camry. It flashes 32 times (60 sec) after I connect it to the battery. It looks like it in panic mode. Manual is not so informative and I don't know how to get it working. Didn't find any information in internet. Any help will be appreciated.

Did you connect all the appropriate sensors (hood, brake pedal, door pin)? Does the manual explain how to enter and exit Valet mode? You might try that, maybe it's just in valet mode.

Yes, I double check wires - door, brake, hood are connected. Even I disconnecting them same result - parking lights flashing for 1 min. I'm unable to reset it, after I flash hood switch it starts flashing for another min.
