I recently bought a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, but no keyless entry clicker was included with it. I have a clicker from a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Is it possible to program this clicker to my Grand Prix and does anyone have the programming instructions for the 2002 Grand Prix to program in this clicker?

I am not sure if the remotes are interchangeable only way to be sure is to call a dealer and get the part number and compare it to what you have!

As for programming do this:

Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Close all of the doors.
Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse block.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Turn the ignition to ACC. The body control module (BCM) will perform the following in order to identify the type of BCM installed in the vehicle:
Flash the seat belt indicator 1, 2, or 3 times.
Chime 1, 2, or 3 times.
Turn the ignition to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second. The BCM may begin to chime and flash diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Open and then close any vehicle door. The BCM will chime in order to confirm that the programming mode has been entered.
Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately 14 seconds.

Important
After approximately 7 seconds the BCM will chime once to confirm that synchronization has been completed. After approximately 14 seconds the BCM will chime a second time to confirm that the programming has been completed.

Repeat the previous step in order to program each additional transmitter.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Install the MALL PGM fuse into the fuse block.
Operate each transmitter.

Are these procedures for the 2002 Grand Prix? Just purchased 2 keyless entries for my 1997 Cutlass Supreme & am looking for expert advise on programming them. The dealership wants $50.00/ea. Would you be willing to give me your advise Flatrater? I'm new to Automotive Forums, should I be posing a new message? Thanks - Marv

Part number for the 02 Grand prix is 10335582
Part number for the 97 Cutlass is 88959920

So based on that I would say they are most certainly not interchangeable

Yes that procedure is for the Grand Prix and will not work for the 97 Olds.

Here is the one you need for your vehicle.

All Remote Keyless Entry Modules may be programmed to receive four different
transmitters which all may be used to operate the remote control lock system on the
vehicle.

Also, severalvehicles, each with the same system may all be programmed to operate from the same transmitter or four different transmitters.

Step 1. Turn ignition off
Step 2. Ground the prgram pin.**the program pin is the two wire connector plugged into
the RKE reciever in the trunk of the vehicle at the Left Wheelhouse. Leave the main
harness plugged in but unhook the two wire connector and ground the pins.**
(within one second, Lock, Unlock and Trunk will cycle to indicate
module ready for programming.)
Step 3. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons until:
Lock, Unlock, Trunk, and Horn cycles to indicate the transmitter has
successfully been programmed.
(This takes no more then 12 seconds)
Step 4. Repeat step 3 for the remaining number of transmitters
Step 5. Remove the ground from the program pin.
Step 6. Verify proper operation of the transmitters.

Hey John,

Thanks for the instructions on reprogramming the 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Remotes. I tried your instructions and found out that there is no 2 wire connector plug-in on the 97. Although I did remove the 2 wires from the 6 wire connector (there are only 5 wires in the block) 3-2 respectively, and tried to ground them, which was a no go. Here is what I found and did though with success.

Taped to the 5 wire harness on the right side, as you're looking at the trunk from the rear of the car, is a single black wire w/white stripe spade connector.

Using a jump wire w/alligator clips on both ends, I grounded the spade terminal inside of the connector to a frame bolt inside the trunk. Scared the crap right out of me, even when I was expecting the program cycle for the Lock, Unlock, Trunk to begin.

I then followed your directions and simultaneously depressed the Lock/Unlock buttons. Within 10 seconds the remote was programmed. I did the second remote with the spade connector still grounded and it too reprogrammed within 10 seconds.

So within in 5 minutes of the actual correct grounding the remotes were programmed. I saved approx. $100.00 which is fantastic.

Thanks much. I am sending not to sound offensive but to pass on your way the method that worked for me. And you were a big help.

Marv

Transmitter Programming

Important
Once the remote control door lock receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information. You must then program all of the transmitters.

Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed.

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)
To program the transmitters, perform the following procedure while seated in the vehicle driver's seat:

Close all the vehicle doors.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold unlock on the door lock switch.

Important
To successfully enter the keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode, steps 4 through 6 must be completed within 25 seconds of pressing the door unlock switch.

While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and remove the ignition key twice. Do not rotate the ignition lock cylinder.
Insert the ignition key a third time leaving the key in the ignition lock cylinder. The ignition must remain in the LOCK position for the rest of the procedure.
Release the door lock switch. The chime will sound three chimes to signal that transmitter programming/diagnostic mode is active.
Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the keyless entry transmitter for approximately 4 seconds. The chime will sound two times to signal that the transmitter has been programmed successfully.
Repeat step 7 for the rest of the transmitters (for a total of 4 transmitters).
To exit the transmitter programming/diagnostic mode perform either of the following:
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.
Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 2 - Scan Tool Required)
Perform the following steps in order to program the remote control door lock transmitters to the remote control door lock receiver using the scan tool:

Install a scan tool.
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Use the scan tool in order to access the Body Control Module (BCM) Special Function: Program Key Fobs menu.
Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Transmitter Programming
A remote door lock receiver may have up to 4 different transmitters programmed. You may program a transmitter to more than 1 vehicle providing the remote keyless entry systems are similar. When reprogramming 1 transmitter, reprogram any and all other transmitters (maximum of 4 total per receiver) at the same time in order for the other transmitters to work.

Important
Leave a window down in the vehicle while reprogramming the remote control door lock receiver system. This procedure will avoid an unintentional lock out if the reprogramming is not performed properly.

Turn off the ignition.
Utilize a Tech 2 to program the remote door lock receiver.
Enter diagnostics (F0).
Enter body (F1); select the year (X) and body style (N).
Select "Remote Function Actuation" (F3).
Select "Special Functions" (F2).
Select "Program Transmitters" (F0).
Select the number of transmitters to program (1-4)
Follow the on-screen instructions; press continue, wait for the locks to cycle, hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 15-30 seconds, the locks will cycle again.
Exit the vehicle. Attempt to lock/unlock the doors to verify the programming.
Perform the following steps if the above procedure does not program the transmitter.
Reconnect the Tech 2.
Enter service programming (F1).
Press the "REQUEST INFO" key.
Select "Reprogram Existing Module"
Exit the vehicle and remove the Tech 2.
Follow the existing procedure to reflash the body control module.

I'm not sure what to do because I just lost my keyless entry to my 99 oldsmobile cutlass. I have the key and the window open. I am afraid to open the door though because the alarm will go off. Can I buy any keyless entry or use an old one and program it for my car. I would apreciate any help and thank you.

Can't you just unlock the door with the key to disable the alarm?
