My new project here is to build the lancia Lc2 Group C 1985 edition (the wide body one).
http://autooboz.omega.kz/foto/lancia/lancia_lc2%281984%29.jpg
I will start from the slot body Tamiya made many yrs ago (think it was 1986) for its Tamtech serie.
There are not so many pictures around and many cars are different each other.Probably will finish it in martini livery, and will take a "license" to fit on her the wonderful BBS rims, as the car saved into FIAT museum in Torino

Maybe this is useful for you :
http://www.xs4all.nl/~robdebie/models/lc2.htm
I have the protar's metal version of the kit, somewhere to my parents house...
If you need anything information of this kit, or to scan decals for you, or anything else, just ask for it...

thank u for the link,is very interesting.
The version I am making is the last one, so just 1985,quite different in shape from Protar kit.
I also had the protar (both version, the metal and plastic one),but sold theme because i prefer the wider shape of this last version.
For the Protar I also saved the Totip decal sheet, printed in alps.
:lol:once again no kit for me...just a plastic (dunno what plastic it is) from vintage-tamiya and some pics.

this was the tamiya complete box for the Tamtech.Today they raised stellar prices in ebay (200 dollars :eek7:) and are quite rare to find.I dont need the complete slot with remote control, so was enought the bodyshell

and to have an idea of the parts I have to scratchbuild I used a "dead" underbody coming from a 962 even from tamiya (trashed when I discover their 962 is a nearly slot model kit too..)

Nice! I'm looking forward to see what you'll make of this. I never knew about that Tamtech version. A pity they didn't make a proper plastic kit of the LC2!

I'll watch this one very close. I have the protar but decals are cracked and I can't find a new sheet. I know Shunko made one but it's Sold Out in all stores.

You could try here:
http://members.optushome.com.au/pattosplace/home.html
Be aware that his decals aren't up to Tamiya / ST27 standard and you may have some fit issues but they are better than nothing, so you could finish your kit.
He also has a sheet for the 1984 BP car which may be easier to decal than the Works Martini car.

Glad also u guys like this Group C as I do.:loser:
It is indeed one of the nicest italian prototype of the 80s (as well as the secret prototype Alfa Se048 done by Alfa and never used...think u surely know the car).
Historically this Lancia had great numbers and possibility (was Ferrari v8 Turbo power)
Also I have martini decal sheet and the totip livery for slim protar body.
The model starts making a test fitting over a scrapped 962 Tamiya, just to have an idea of the proportions. The clear plastic is a pain,I dunno if this is styrene or lexan. It is just a THICK body slot from 80s.
The first things to do is surely to plan the cockpit, cut the rear wing and plan how to find some good BBS wheels (dont wanna scrap a too expensive Protar, even cause in such box they are undersized and terrible).
Will primer immediately the car, covering all the clear parts.
The side windows and the windshield are moulded together with the body.

Great project.
It has been done before, and with good results. I also have this project in the "drawer" that will hopefully one day will come to life.
My goal would be to keep it simple and focus on a good looking curbside model.
As the plastic used on Tamtech models isn't good ol' polistyrene but rather a much harder and less workable impact resistant material, Cutting and puttying may not be as easy as one may expect, making it harder to work with and a bit imiting on our creativity.
Please keep showing progress, It will be very interesting to see it materialize!
Perhaps my favorite groupC ever!:smokin:

a little more test fit.
I wellknow there is absolutely NOTHING in common with 962, so I think I am just lucky it fits quite well on a smaller car as the Porsche was.
Also the gearbox and its suspension is not suitable at all, too different, dunno neither if the hewland gearbox is in some way similar to the german ZF getrag.
The wheels instead looks quite ok,just for my personal taste I will make the book car with BBS (surely ex Mirabella team last racing car from 1991,they also open a naca duct on both sides under the doors side, check at pics).
Inside revell/hasegawa 956 jagermeister I found the BBS rims I like..so we can go on:runaround:

bodyshell now is ready for primer. I masked all the clear parts with tamiya tape

Awesome work on the cockpit, I am guessing you are going to use the pit crew for a diorama with this one?
lovegt40

the idea for a nice pit crew diorama is running in my mind since many years.
I dunno if I will use this Lancia for such diorama.Surely the LMM figures guys linked me in the other thread are a little too much modern for 80's (look at pictures, they were much more similar to nascar crew, also fuel guy was very similar). All the staff shall look a little bit "cheaper" than today standard, there were videos where people at work was in tennis shoes and jeans.
Just I know I love the pictures where hundreds of people are jumping on the car to make the pit, as in formula 1 .
A nice diorama can be a very cool for such models.I am planning to make something similar same for my Lancia S4 in progress and already weathered.Have just to plan carefully the scene. We wil see...for now I go on building this italian fast lady.

A nice diorama can be a very cool for such models.I am planning to make something similar same for my Lancia S4 in progress and already weathered.Have just to plan carefully the scene. We wil see...for now I go on building this italian fast lady.

Very impressive start.
You're clearly not afraid of a challenge.
I'll be following this one closely as I too love the old Group C cars (although I don't build them myself...)

here again guys.
Xmas time and so grey winter days really kill me,I miss really too much my sun, the beach,my ship....the summer (time to move to Australia maybe?:naughty:)
So is time to go on with this Lancia Lc2 !
I closed the bodyshell and started to paint the car. I did this cause the too light bodyshell from tamiya is too flexible and will be surely a mess to manage it with decals applied over. Prefer all closed and fixed.
The paints used are H311 off white from Gunze sangyio (will give a lighter color base, better than grey primes I used here) and then Flat white, even from Gunze.
the apply of this white is anyway not 100% flat, but semigloss, and will be perfect as basecoat fot the Martini livery
Hope u like it :p

front lights in position. There is a big mess around the shape and size of these lights: in many pictures they are round, in many others are squared, some others again have double ones each side.
I made this version, single round one:

After new-year eve the swedish-italian chef here present is nearly gone. :runaround:
We use to eat really too much down here. Do u know what is "Cotechino and lenticchie"? :p:p:p u will love it, believe me.

Happy 2011 to all guys.
Now is time to test the wheels to be used. I have both Tamiya and Hasegawa front ones. I will use the Tamiya ones, cause surely referred to an earlier car, with a larger wheel, Hasegawa has the ultra low profile tires used in the early 90s while my Lancia Evo is from 1985

And time is up now to starting with the mighty Martini-Racing livery.
Tamiya decals are quite old and I hope they will not reserve some surprises for me during the applying

I still dunno if I will apply the race number:this because I keep in touch with the pilots of the real thing (Nannini and Gabbiani) and would like to meet theme in person to see some real pics, if they have decent ones to share.
The idea should be anyway to make car no.4 Driven by Alessandro Nannini in 1985, but I will take my time until scratchbuild martini logos will arrive me.
tamiya made a mistake in their old slot body, the Martini gold in the logo is totally missing (dunno neither at the time it they had the technology to print it on decal film), so will apply the last decals over finished glossy models. Think I will not have so many problems, cause decals done in alps are usually too thin

ahahah Bravo Emil ! it is anyway better than my greatest effort in german (ich mochte enine gemusesuppe! LOL)
Yep,Gunze topcoat with blue label BUT this time I tried seriously to polish the car with tamiya compound, and they work really well, also cause I was too lucky I found 10 pack of original Flex i Grit assorted ultra fine sandpapers :iceslolan
To have an even better shiny glossy finish the next time I will use a little more glossy, but I am always scared to make the car becomes as a sucked candy (too easy with 2k gloss)

One thing that I have discovered is that if you make your primer job as smooth as you possibly can you will have a much easier time getting a good glossy clearcoat in the end.
If you have a rough primer, the following layers will just make it even more rough and you will have to sand and polish the clear coat alot.
Again I really must say that this model is something special. I have even started looking at Ebay for a Lancia of my own but......200 bucks?!:eek:

ahaaa Emil, u swedish.I love your country (my wife is from Lysekil. Bohuslan rulez!)
Swedish chef is a must..I die laughing looking at him even after 20 yrs.Simply genial and too cute fellow. Bork bork bork!
If u also want to make my Lancia, try look only for the clear body. It should be much cheaper (think around 50 euros). I bought mine one from Vintage tamiya parts. All the rest u gotta in the complete tamiya box is the tamtech chassis and remote control, all things u dont need at all.
Body box includes also martini decals and tape maskings for the windshield/lights

Unfortunately the decal over the windshield simply disappear when I placed it into water (and dunno why really, probably I was very lucky with all the other decals of this sheet) so now I have the dilemma to place just a sun protection bend in unique color.Martini livery cars can have it in white, blue or red. Any idea? :naughty:
Another choiche can be leave the windshield clean,as it is now. I have some pictures done this way, but they are only for T-cars. We will see.
Time to set the pilot door.I made a metal pin over cockpit roof and took some shots of the door in open position.I prefer place it a little lower,in many pictures C group cars have doors quite completely open forward, much more than 90 degrees.

Looking great!...it's a shame about the windshield decal, you will have to decide between leaving it as it is, or maybe improvise a new substitute (paint it black and apply lettering on top, or simply print a new one on white virgin decal-sheet)
I don´t know about your photographing skills, or what resources you have for that, but the model sure deserves some better pictures, preferably shot under natural light, nearby a window or outside, and of the whole model in one shot.
As I've told here before, I love group-C cars and this LC2 is perhaps my favorite. Congratulations on your sucessfull conversion, I really like the way it sorted out.
Concluding that even the R/C Tamtech series from Tamiya are worthy models to build!...now, didn't they use to produce a Ford C100 as well?...:smokin::evillol:

completely right Alvarol, I took picture in my garage yesterday ay 2 am . No light at all and "battle" with camera to try set the light.Just took the pic to documentate the moment.Sometimes stopand picture all is a pain and the risk for me is always to skip parts (and later regret it).
About windshield decal....I just didnt wanted to wait another month to fix it with alps printing service, but probably I will do it  and in the meanwhile will fix the rear wing area.
I note now also the japanese modeller making this model some years ago for the magazine, didnt place decal over windshield.maybe he had the same problem I had?

can you tell me what tool did you use to open the doors?
and what references did you use to make the chassis and interior?

Hi Martiniman,
The door was cutted old style, so very sharp knife and slowly moving over the recessed line over the body. The hinge part was cutted straight and then rebuild in plasticard.
As reference I am using a book from giorgio nada editore about competition lancias:
http://www.lancia-historie.de/literatur.html ref. no 54.
There are some pics of this Lancia Lc2 EVO, even if the main part are surely of a modern one saved probably by american collector (BBS rims and american flag in ALMS style). The cockpit is quite different from other lc2 slim body, only the dashboard is identical in both versions.
Note what I am doing here was also done as a complete curbside kit by Modellers some years ago,so if u want to build one without getting mad, there is also such resin kit, even if surely a little bit expensive than mine.

Hi, Paolo
This is an absolutely stunning work!
I totally agree with Alvarol about the pictures.
meanwhile, you're giving some glimpse of that porsche gt1 evo 1998.
It seems like lexan slot body from Cursa models, right?
Can't wait to see that one too!
cheers,

eheh, thank u Sang-Ki,
I am makin nearly all the expensive and too rare subjects done in the past by Modeller's (this lc2 evo, the gt1 98 and the dino 206 s ).
Alvaro is right about the pics, I am improving also theme and just have finished a cool photo corner to pic my models,in a true italian style :

and always thank u to Sebastian from Germany for giving me the idea
Yes,the gt1 98 is from Cursa slot.It really doesnt worth the 80 euros to buy it, cause it is just a body coming from a slot car and is really hard to keep it to a decent level for a static model, but I love the car (and many other too).
I am actually planning to build the Porsche 997 Gt3 R Hybrid from the last 24 hours of the Nurburgring. At least this car wasnt made by Modeller's

hi guys,
after a little pausa (mostly due cause sailing in mediterranean..) I've nearly finished my lancia.
The buidl up of rear wing mountings have been a real pain, but the final effect seems ok to me.
I add the PE wipers and fuel cap fillers. The mountings for rear wings are done in alu and the 2 cables are in steel.
Hope u like it :runaround: ;)

eh eh . I Love Greek sea, but I sail mostly small catamarans :) as Hobie cats and A-class and will be little hard for me cross Adriatic without capsizing and sank :D
I Really love too much this sport,I am planning also to make my own school here. Will be the great occasion to finally live in front of the sea forever.Who, as me and u, loves such, understand at once this sickness.
With my wife we live also in Marstrand (Swe),and who is from scandinavia knows what sort of paradise (mostly for sailors) is such place, even if water is a little bit colder than ours.
Few money now for a bigger toy..... ;)
