Installed aftermarket relay for fuel pump. Used same trigger to coil of relay. New hot to pump. Will start and get to about 2500revs and die.
Fuel smell very strong. Pulled off and plugged vacuum lines to egr no change. Did same with all other vacuum lines also no change. Noticed that during start the egr diaphragm pulled in.
With egr bypassed and no change that part I would think make no difference. Would it be possible to have vacuum leak in throttle body.....could it be idle air control valve or fast idle air valve, or should I be thinking ECM.
With strong smell of fuel could it be flooding the engine if so what would cause this?
This tracker was given to me and im just trying to get it going.
Also any advice on where to get parts would be appreciated.
Thanks Mike

Need more engine info. 8 valve, fuel injected, TBI, 1.3, 1.6, 16 valve. carb. .... you get the picture. :runaround:

canada 1.6 TBI 4x4. not sure on #of valves. Kinda put this thing to rest for a while.
Got a compression tester and when I get the notion I am going to check. However because I trust the person that I got it from, I think that it will be fine.
He said fpr went bad. I got that taken care of, but fuel pump would not operate. Pulled tank and pump was all rusted up. Disassembled pump to field level and cleaned up all rust. Replaced corroded ground wire. Pump is now working, but my guess would be that it might not be working sufficiently.
Another thought was, is it possible that the converter could be plugged, allowing it to start but not run. I don't know
I'm an electrician by trade, not a mechanic obviously, or I wouldn't be here.
Short of having a bad engine, I will get this vehicle running.

If is has a carb, float may be sticking. If it has injectors you may have leaking injectors. Could be not getting enough air (TPS) issue. What year, can you pull codes?

codes are revealing no problem. Throttle body single injector, doesn't seem to be leaking
