transmission adjustment

I have a friend with an 05 Mazda 3. He is old and scared of the internets. lol. He asked me to check on an issue he's been having. His car(automatic transmission) is shifting hard. Very low mileage and easy driven.
He thinks there may be some kind of adjustment to the AT that can make the car shift smoother. I checked around on a few sites and came up with a bunch of stuff. Throttle line pressure and transmission band adjustment sounded most like what he was asking for, but honestly i'm not good enough with cars to say. So here I am :)
He is hoping that a. there is such an adjustment
and b. that someone can provide some general knowledge about it
that way he can take it to a shop with some reasonable
expectation of success.
any knowledge one way or the other would be helpful! thanks!

There is no adjustment.... they did have an issue with shift shock between 1 and 2.... usually solved with a calibration update to the PCM...
