Today I saw a Z3 but it did not have the logo but instead a M logo on the back of it. I was driving behind it in traffic well it had 4 exhaust pipes. I was in my 951 like always. I decided to see if the guy wanted to race to find out if it really had M Power. So I pull out side him some guy in his late 40s early 50s he did not want to race so I don't know if it has power cause the Z3 don't have that much power. I was afront of him and he fellowed me until this one hospital so I guess the guy is a Doctor. Does anyone know what this model could be? I think it may be an aftermarket job but I really don't think he would just put a M logo on it cause he is a Doctor.

The car you saw was an M roadster. It has the same motor as the M3, but about 3-400 lbs less weight to carry around and slightly better gearing for under 100. My M coupe is about the same, but stiffer and a bit faster,(less flex, etc..). 0-60 is in the low 5's, slightly under if modded,(like 4.8-4.9), and 1/4 in the high 13's stock, down as low as 13.4 for a good N/A one,(exhaust, intake, good driver, etc..). So yes, they are quick. But after third gear, they lose some steam. The new M3 motor is now being put in them. derated to 315 hp, so that should cure the over 100 speed issue. It is a screamer. I compete here with the local PCA every month with their time trail. There are only about two or three drivers/cars that can beat me,(with the porsches that is). Now I will give you that if there were some 996's out there with race rubber, I would have a serious run for my money. But most of them are older 911's, 940's, 914's, etc.. The best driver of a street car is an 85 911, who can beat just about everyone. Yes, slightly modified,(understatement). There are 993's and 996's, but the drivers are not that great, save one 993 triptonic, who does incredible considering the auto. And even some turbos come out to play, but the newest one was a 93. Enough on the racing. Bottom line, the M roadster will hold its own fairly well. But on a top speed run, you will kill it.

Z's of course have what is known as an "M" roadster. It has the 3.2L in various forms but the two I know are the 2000 model which is 240HP stock and the 2001 model which is 315 HP stock. This is slightly down from the M3, restricted from a little bit of intake tubing under the hood. Also both are down from the Euro models. As you know the Germans think we can't drive over here anyway. Both models now have available aftermarket superchargers - they are not cheap, but are awsome.

It was a M-roadster!!! I am also sure that it could of beaten your car very easily. Most people are saying that the roadster is getting 0-60 times of over 5 seconds when this is good but it gets better! I have seen test results for the 2001-2002 models that give a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds. That is extremely fast!!! Also if the doctor was willing he could have spent 500 bucks on a govener remover which would mean that the M-roadster could eat you for dinner, all the way up to 155mph and beyond. These times almost rival ferrari. Hope this info helps.

The 2002 M Roadster is much faster than older models and will stomp a lot of Porsche's with no problem. I drove the Boxster S & 2002 M Roadster back-to-back earlier this month and decided to go with the Bimmer. It had a lot more power to work with all over the band, not just up high like the boxster.

The M Roadster has 342HP in 2002 w/ suspension mods makes it as tight as it is fast. 0-60 is definitely under 5 secs if you know what you're doing. Unfortunately the top-end is limited but you can find mod chips if you intend on running at 150MPH+ .

Too bad the Z4 M won't be ready for another 12 months. The 3.0 Z4 will have to do for now but it's a big cut in HP and weighs more than the 2002 M Roadster. Can't wait to see what they are going to do the the M Roadster with the bigger Z4 platform. I'm hoping for 360+ so I can trade up next summer! :)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there will definitely not be a Z4 M. The Z3 M Roadster sold in too few numbers, BMW dont want a repeat.
