ok, here it goes, i am considering doing a roof chop on my japped skyline, mad, yes in a way but how much work would it entail?? better to play with paints to give a lower effect? make it convertible, lol, or maybe a targa top/t bar, your suggestions are most apreciated as with anyone who feels kind enough to make me a intercooler big enough to fit the new gap in the bumper!!!!
cheers guys

Man, what a hole in the front is that !
You could fit an elephant i it !
still, looks very original.
for teh chop I don't know how much work it would take, but my wildest guess is , if you do it cleanly, plan it on beforehand, draw the lines which you will be cutting and cleanly sand and file and re-putty the gaps, it won't be "that" hard, considering you ' ll end up with a very original car !
The question is, have you got the perseverance?

perserverance isnt the problem, but i think i have just thought of the way to keep the glass, but only problem is the roof its self, if i chop the roof and drop it the front or the rear screen will be out of alignment wont it? is there another way

for a windshield i would say you can either modify the original or use this clear plastic you can find in a large hobby store they use for making stencils.

You're going to have to cut the roof up into 4 peices. That way the posts will still match but you will have to add strips of plastic down the middle in order to stretch the roof. Does that make sense?
Hard to explain-when you cut the roof off and remove the pieces of posts, the original roof will be too small to match the shorter posts, so you have to make it longer and wider to compensate.

Just cut out a section then heat the pillars and bend them from the top so they meet with the bottom and add a little putty...i did it with my civic Convertible...

with regards to the intercooler, i just had a quick go at making one and seem to have had a good result but thanks for the offer, by the way, if i was to order 1 for another car, how much for it and to get it to england?
And bigpoppa, your idea makes perfect sense i love it, along the lines of if the mountain wont come to u then u got to the mountain, cant wait to try and make it fit, may have to sacrifice the side windows if i cant get it to fit, but could always make them look like they are half rolled down. cant wait till tomorrow to have a go!! might also re shape the roof while im there!!
cheers, you guys rule:devil:

does anyone have any pics of roof chopped models or cars, preferably a jap car similar to the skyline so i can try and get proportions etc right.
gonna try the method of cutting and inserting a new piece inbetween the top of the roof.
have been creating the side skirts last night in preperation for extending the wheel arches! will post photos as soon as i have done them, i am getting quite excited about this project now. also i now have a huge roll of self adhesive aluminium, its very thin but strong and can be polished, would be great for detailing. we use it for taping duct where i work and have lots of it to (borrow!!!!)

Here you go.

You either need to lengthen the roof or angle either the front or rear pillars. WHatever you do you're in for some fun in making glass that fits.

I'd say a targa or T-top would look better on it, chopping an R34 would look tripped out, big arse, big front, low small roof section. It looks off proportion in a bad way. It's your model so it's your call but I wouldn't chop it.

Don't know of any chopped tuners, but a few years ago, I think Hot Rod Magazine built up a late model (90s) Monte Carlo, and they chopped the top on that. Very subtle, but it looked good. I remember they painted it metallic orange.

i was inspired by a S15 i saw with a roof chop, it looked so long, low and sexy, but i now agree that it would look out of proportion considering how much i have built up the side skirts:devil:
