The wheels are original... and have a center cap, ring around the center cap. How do these come off?

it eather pulls off or it's on there tighten on with lug nuts also there could be screws holding it on. but i bet you take a lug nut off that will tell you all 5 lugs are holding cap on.
one more thing it might slip threw the back of rim but if you see lugnuts that's how cap is held on.

Can't see any lug nuts... and can't "easily" remove the cap.... afraid I'll ruin it. Do I need to get rough with it???

ok if you dont see lugnuts or screws then yes it pulls off. smack it with a rubber hammer or as you say get ruff with it don't think you'll hurt it.

Answer to my own question... the center cap is actually one piece... and there is one spot on the perimeter where a screw driver can be inserted to pop the center cap off. Lug nuts are directly under the center cap. My car is missing one lug nut per wheel, and I found a single locking lug nut in the ash tray... so somebody removed the locking lug nuts and did not reinstall them. The special "key" is also gone.

i wouldn't put those key lock lug nuts on there unless $ they were $25.000 rems i'd put regular lug nust that come on it.
