Transmission dip stick problem 2000 astro

I just got the newly rebuilt auto transmission back in the 2000 Astro. All seemed well until I put the dipstick back down the tube. It stops about two inches from the bottom and springs back. No kidding. I've tried twisting it in all directions and no way it's going. Anyone heard of this before?

I have seen that happen very rarely. The 2 causes I know of are the dip stick tube not in the hole correctly but that is the least likely. I have seen trans filter become unclipped and slide to the side covering the hole from the inside and not allowing the stick to go all the way in. There are other options i have heard of but thats all that comes to mind. If it is the filter moving over the easiest to do is unbolt the tube and use a small screwdriver to slide the filter back then reinstall. You can get a better look at whats stopping it that way too if the filter is not the culprit. If it is the filter then you have a talk with the place that rebuilt it. It is VERY important to get that replaced in that case, and it should be warrenty.
If neither one of those is the case I will check my brain for other options.
If it is the filter dont tear the mechanic a new one, faulty parts happen. How he deals with it will show his stuff.
