Hey fellas, I need some opinions and some knowledge.

I have a 1983 Chevrolet Malibu CL with the 3.8 L V-6. It runs like shit and has no power when it is running.

I would LIKE to put a 3800 Series I(Tuned Port), II, III V-6 or any of the supercharged varients into this car. I don't know if it is possible or WHAT i would need to do this.

For those that are unfamiliar with the 1983 Malibu it was the last year they were produced as a rear wheel drive car. They use the G- body platform and did not come with very many horses under the hood. That's why i'd like to add some pep and fuel efficiency to this sedan.

The motors that i want to throw into my car are found on front wheel drive cars, such as regals, bonnevilles, impalas, grand prix, etc. The motors are fuel efficient and would get my beater rolling pretty quickly. Fuel injection is a major plus for me aswell since i am young and have NO idea how carbs work...

Just let me know what you all think, i have this car and i'd like to use it for something...

Dollar amount estimates from you guys would be great(from those that have done motor swaps, upgrades, etc).

-Don

Here are the pictures of the car, thought it might help.

The 3.8 currently in there is a "229", NOT a 231. It's a 305-based 6 not unlike the 4.3 is to a 350. Adapting a FWD block to it could be a tall order. Bellhousing and mounts are completely different. A 350 (Chevy) would "bolt right in"... (:-Jim

Go with the 350 like Mr p said.
The 3800 is for front drive cars and would be a PITA to install IMO

Actually, a 3.8 from a Regal or Monte or 1989 Trans Am would bolt in with the right trans. A T-Type Malibu would be interesting.

Personally, a 350 with a TPI and custom program ahead of a 200-4R with lockup would be ideal. You could make plenty of torque and still cruise in lockup at 27 MPG.
