82 720 datsun timing help

i am trying to change my head gasket and probly timing set but i have to get it in time before i take distributor and head off. i have the crank time mark on the 0 degree tab mark and the cam pulley dowel is in the number 2 hole like it is supposed to be but my timing chain is silver link is about 8 links counterclock wise of the timing number 2 mark. and the distributor show to be about 1 1/4 off counterclockwise. can anyone give me any help on getting it tdc.

not sure what you mean bring crank to TDC your rotor should be at #1
or 180 out! what is #2 hole??

i have the timing mark on the crank pulley on the 0 degree mark on the timing tab
and the cam sprocket has a hole where a dowel goes and there where it goes has a number 2 stamped on the sproket

im not sure what the #2 is for
if you want to bring engine to tdc
bring crank to 0,dist rotor should be pointing
to #1 on cap or 180* out in which you turn
crank 360*
unless timing belt is running s/thing else like oil pump
you should be @ TDC
is timing chain/belt broke??are you looking @ a manual
there should be a mark/dot on cam gear
that aligns when its @ tdc
the dowl your looking at may mean nothing???
