Hello, i just bought a 1993 Caprice classic last week and am already having problems with it. It seems that when it is cold outside that the car will crank for like 3-5 seconds until it finally starts. Once it starts it runs great and purrs at idle. I just cant figure out what the problem is. I put the key in and turn it to accessory for a couple of seconds first to let the fuel pump run a while first but it seems to have little to no affect in helping the problem. Also i should mention that the car has the 305 TBI engine in it. The car did sit for a few years before i bought it if that makes much of a difference. Now, this morning i went out to start the car and the battery was dead! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

turn your key on and off about 3 times then turn it over and see if it starts if it does i'd say fuel pump.

Try changing the fuel filter and see if that helps..

I agree with blt2lst - replace the fuel filter. It should be located under the car, near the tank.

fuel pressure regulator could also be the problem

can you hear the gas pump go zip when you first turn key on or just a click when it reaches carb? if you hear a slight click just by turning on key i say pump if gas filter i would think it would miss but i agree on could be regulator if you hear zip on fuel pump.

with the few year old fuel especially , if it was ethanol you get things growing in the fuel. might need tank / fuel system flushed.
