My shifter in my 03 carlo is very difficult to shift between all gears. There is alot of resistance moving it and makes a loud click when it does move into another position. what seems to be the problem?

The linkage could be bent!

If you remove the cable from the lever at the top of the trans, then remove the cable anchor bracket from the trans, you can straighten out the shift cable and see if the situation improves.
If it is no easier to move with the cable disconnected, the problem is likely in the cable or floor shifter.
If it becomes easier to move with the cable disconnected, the problem may be in the trans or in the cable itself once it is bent into position. You can clean and lightly lubricate the cable at the trans end and try to work the lubricant into the cable housing. If the cable is damaged, lubrication may not help.
If the problem is in the floor shifter, disassembly, cleaning, and inspection should reveal any worn or damaged parts. Cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment may solve most of the problems.
