I want to make changes to my mustang so that it gets better gas mileage. Can anyone recommend a good option? I have used the fuel cleaners and do regular maintenance, but want something more.

Is cylinder 6 misfiring?

Suspect -
Coil on plug (COP)
Spark plug
Injector
Compression bad
Inspect COP + PLUG for water or oil residue, this could cause misfires.

Lets get this car running on all six cylinders 1st.

Where does he say he has a misfire or a problem even?

What are you currently getting for mileage?

Biggest thing will be to just drive it like it wasn't a Mustang. Drive it slow. Keep it in the highest gear available when possible. Don't accelerate towards a red light or stop sign, which only leads to wasted energy and brake wear. Keep it at the speed limit on the highways. The difference between 65 and 75MPH might be as much as 3MPG due to parasitic drag. Avoid idling long periods. Run the proper weight oils and lubes in the engine, transmission, and rear axle. Changing plugs if you have never had it done might help. Make sure your tires are filled up properly. My car calls for 32psi, but I run mine at 38-40psi (tires safe to 44psi) which helps mileage out a bit.

Only fuel improvement modifications that you can do that actually work are underdrive pulleys and a computer tune to get the most performance (and thereby best efficiency) out of your engine. Both of these options are $300 or more each. So you figure out how many miles you'd have to travel to make up the 1-2MPG improvement you'd receive. Hint: it's likely in the hundreds of thousands of miles.

Do NOT buy into those silly little things you stick in your intake to make your airflow a "tornado" or whatever they claim increases fuel efficiency. Same goes for those magnets on the fuel lines or anything you add to your fuel or wire into your MAF sensor. These are, for lack of a better description, complete false advertising. They don't do anything they claim. Don't buy a K&N or other "high flow" air filter that may claim improved mileage. They just let more debris get into the engine, reducing its life and don't help mileage or performance.

With everything in perfect working order, don't expect much more than what the EPA estimates are. If you don't like them, somehow try to find a diesel as they are far far superior to "hybrids."

No misfire, but it hesitates if I have been doing all day traveling (I took a 2 day trip in December). Other than that I have noticed that it drinks more gas than it should.

Thanks Blue Fusion.. I drive a little fast, but don't race around or jump start. Although I am female, I enjoy a little speed when I'm traveling long distance lol. I will say, even following the speed limit, I get less than the estimated manufacture allowance, and that bothers me. I will look at some of the things you mentioned. Maybe later I can do a little modifying.

When you put the accelerator pedal to the floor, will it hesitate?
New air filter.
Clean MAF/IACT sensors.
And a new upsteam (post) HO2 sensor.

Only if I have been riding it hard all day. For day to day driving around, it runs fine.
