01 Rodeo Thermostat Install - Which Way?

Just spent a very useful hour or so browsing this forum and learning about everyone else's cooling issues - which is why I am working my vehicle also. But my question is rather simple, and I haven't seen an answer (Probably there, but I couldn't find it).
The thermostat has a 'deflector tab' on the lower (engine) end of the unit. Which way does this tab go? Towards the front of the vehicle, or to the rear?
When I changed mine it appeared to fit OK both ways. I saw one exploded schematic online which appeared to show it facing to the rear, so that's how I installed it.... Fingers crossed...
