Replacing Serpentine belt

I would like to replace my serpentine belt and I need to lift the engine just enough to slip the belt past the right engine mount. Can any one tell me where the safest place is to put the jack under the engine to lift it on my 2002 Malibu LS? Do I need to disconnect any thing before I lift it?

you shouldn't need to do that. when you took that belt off you never had to do that on jacking it up did you? if you have to you could put a board accros your tranny and jack it up slowley if you cant get it that way lossen a tranny or one moter mount.

I don't know if there is another way, but when me and my friend changed the serpentine belt on my '98 malibu 3.1L V6 we jacked up the engine to do it since we had to undo the mounting bolts on that side only. There seemed to be no other way to get the belt off.

One thing I would recommend though is to spend the money and change out the 2 stationary pulleys while you have it off if you can. My old belt didn't actually break, it just kept getting kicked off the pulley because one of the bearings seized up. The other one would spin but not freely enough so we changed both. 2 pulleys and belt were about $100.

I don't remember where my friend put the floor jack exactly but I think he used a board to spread the load like Scrapper said.

Good luck
