I'm hoping somebody with knowledge could help me...I have read so much stuff on the problem at hand that I finally gave up sorting through contradicting arguements, and typed out whats up..
here goes..

From the battery(brand new), 4gauge power wire (w/50A fuse 7inches from bat.) goes back to the trunk(about 14feet), to a fused distrobution block which holds 2X 30A fuses, the wire then splits, one 8gauge running to the 4channel sony, and one to the 2channel Alpine, both amps are grounded with 8gauge wire but at two different spots
in the trunk(had to be this way), the ground for the sony is about 8" long, and the Alpine ground is about 13"

sony xplod HU (2Xpre-outs)
y-splitter used on rear preouts for sony amp
remote wire is run from HU to sony in trunk then from sony another wire to alpine
both amps turn on no problem

sony 444W (Max) 4 channel (40A internal fuse)
powers front and rear speakers

Alpine 600W (Max) 2 channel running bridged (2X 20A internal fuses)
powers 1 12"sub

everything is 4ohm

my problem is that I get no sound from the Alpine..it turns on, it doesn't blow any fuses, but I hear nothing out of the sub

the sony works fine, front and rear speakers work fine.
if I take it out of the mix and just power up the Alpine with the remote from the HU...the Alpine still powers on but no sound

the saga began last november(all I had was the Alpine amp and a 12"sub then) when my battery sat dead for a few days in the shop... after that I recharged it(wasn't healthy anymore) and I don't know what happened but the Alpine kept blowing 30A fuses at the distro. block...I tryed putting in a 50A and that blew the 2 20A on the amp.. so I pulled it out of the trunk and it sat in the basement all winter..

I got the sony 4channel in Feb. and hooked it up using the wiring that was already there from my Alpine...worked fine, still does. 30A fuse at distro. and I hooked up a pyramid 2channel amp(junk I know) for two 10" subs I had lying around...just to see that the 2 amp system worked with the wiring I had installed...and it did..worked fine(other than pyramid being junk) this left me still wondering why the Alpine ever stopped working properly

so today I got a new battery and hooked it up...then I took the Alpine out of the basement and hooked it back up...it turns on(light on),I was not expecting it to without blowing something,
but I get no sound..I had a 40A fuse in the distro. block
for the Alpine..30A for the sony...50A at the battery..nothing blew...just no sound from the Alpine...the sony works fine, front and rear speakers work fine. I did notice a bit of smoke out of my Alpine..so I popped out the 40A fuse real fast and tryed again with the original 30A fuse in and it still turns on no smoke and no sound....did I fry it? it still turns on

ground too long?
why are none of the fuses blowing anymore? (since the old battery)
remote wire split causing problem?

any help would be helpful..
could somebody shed some light?

thanks..?

I don't know what other peoples answers were but if you heard this one then you got the right answer. The Ground being wire 8 in. long and one being 13 in. long. Ever hear of "Ohms law" well it states "electricity follows the path of least resistance" well the path of least resistance is a 8 in. wire I think you can understand it. That is my theory on it cause thats basic "DC" theroy. My Idea on it is run a seperate wire for the other AMP....I will talk to my buddy about how he wires peoples multi-amp systems cause he has to do it to mine I have 2 Alpine V-12 MRV 757 amps and 2 Power Acoustik I never had 2 before so now is my time to figure it out too. Good post cause it helped me out. thanks

You could have one of two problems. Either the amp has a problem like arron1976 says, but I don't think that is it because you are getting power to amp. Also, the DC theory would only apply to the power wire, not the ground wire. The other problem could be the speaker. My friend had the same problem and I looked at the sub, if you check behind the sub on the back of the cone you'll see the two voice coils. Check and see if one of them is burned up, cuz if one of them is touching the cone it can cause a short and burn the coil. You should be able to see a black mark where it's touching the cone. If that's not the problem then I'm not too sure what it is. You also might try running 2-gauge wire from the battery, that's what I had to do. It might keep from blowing any fuses.

run both ground wires to a Junction Block and then to one ground ....get it. Rockford Fosgates site said this.
(2, 8Gauge wires)
0 0 from amps
0 0
0 0
0 0 to
00000
00
00
00
00 GROUND
(4Gauge wire)
This is the way, try it maybe your problem is that simple and not a big problem like an amp. If you have a CAP then your power should be O.K. I believe in larger Altenators instead of CAP's but you will need a voltage regualtor if you buy a larger alternator. The battery will expand and eventually explode if it get incorrect amp/volts
