Top and side post distributor.

I'm swapping out the engine in my 95 Blazer. My old engine had the OBDI system while the new one has the OBDII system. The question I have is that the new engine had the side post distributor while my old one was top post. What are the differences between the two, and would my old one work in the new engine or would I have to use the side post?

Different stuff inside for different computer system.
The new side post dist only has a camshaft position sensor in it.
You will need to us all sensors including injector sysyem if it is different and all other stuff from old engine on the repacement.

Ok...I figured that the new engine would have more sensors on it than my original due to the newer onboard diagnostics. But could I get by with simply removing the extra sensors that are not needed with my current onboard diagnostic system or replacing them with the ones in my old engine? I believe the injector system is the same since both engines are from a 95. And since the side post distributor has an extra sensor I'd have to use the distributor from my old engine, correct?

Yes dist from old engine.
The crankshaft sensor is not used with the old style dist.
If both W code engines every thing else looks the same.

OK. Both are W code engines so we'll see how it goes. Still pulling the engine out, so it'll be a while before I have it all put together and ready to start.
Good news is that I'm taking pictures as I pull the engine and will have some to share with others on how to lower the tranny to get to the belhousing bolts and such, and what to look for. Will post an update when I get done.
